Health Essentials

The Book: "Health Essentials (Health Is Wealth)": Very Important for Everyone in Every Family

(You can obtain your e-copy of the book from the Nuubuu link http://nbuu.co/ds and the printed book from Amazon)

The famous saying “Health is Wealth” is not a cliché. Having good health is more valuable than having material wealth since you can’t enjoy the wealth without health. The fact is health itself is an important kind of wealth. Even if you do not possess much money or assets you can still be far happier being in great shape physically, emotionally and mentally if you possess the most important asset called “health”.

That’s the reason for bringing forth this book to benefit everyone and to remind about the things you can do to keep healthy throughout your life, not feel miserable and stay capable of creating and enjoying this wealth as well as other types of wealth.

The suggestions the authors have made in this book for keeping healthy are very simple, quite practical, most economical and easily understandable. The entire book has been written in a layman’s language keeping out all the difficult to understand jargons.

This book is based on collective native wisdom derived from close observations of the persons who lived happily and healthily till age 90 to 100 plus years. It should not be treated as a medical or professional prescription from a doctor or a nutrition expert or a physical trainer or any other professional health practitioner.

Authors (Shyam Bhatawdekar and Dr Kalpana Bhatawdekar) are top-notch business executives, successful entrepreneurs, highly sought after business and management consultants, eminent management gurus and scholars, authentic human behavior experts and prolific authors.

Our Book: "Romance of Intimacy"

(239 copies of the book bought by the readers in past couple of day)

Every married couple, every couple about to get married and the others who are in other relationships will be lucky to own this book titled "The Romance of Intimacy". It is an authentic guide on how to build, maintain and enhance the relationships. And it is written by the authentic authors.

Our ace authors Shyam Bhatawdekar and Dr Kalpana Bhatawdekar are multifaceted personalities. First and foremost, they are great human beings and a happily married couple of nearly 40 years standing. Besides they are rationally, emotionally and  spiritually intelligent as is evident from their  personal and professional profile- they are top notch business executives, highly sought after business consultants, eminent management gurus, prolific authors, authentic human behavior experts, humane psychologists, presenters par excellence.

Therefore, they are quite competent to tell you a thing or two about life in general and the married life in particular. They believe that if you are married and wish to remain married, you must try to seek the “bliss” of the married life.

And as per them it is achieved by designing and experiencing intimacy in marriage. The partners in a relationship can romance in intimacy provided they wish to do it and provided they develop the skills and competencies that are needed to develop and enhance such an intimacy. It does not happen automatically. One has to take steps to do it.

In this book, the authors suggest a six point program to achieve this. Each point of the six point program is one important lesson that needs to be understood and then implemented very well.

Some excerpts from the book are re-produced below:

Need for Building Intimacy in Your Marriage

The fact of life is that you live with your parents and brothers and sisters for just  about 15 to 20 years of your entire life.  You live with your own children only for 15 to 20 years of your life. And you live
with your spouse for around 60 to 70  years of your life if you got married at your  age 30 and your total life span is 90 to 100 years.

So isn't it very obvious that you should invest more of your time and efforts in building up your married life? Don't you think you need to do whatever it needs to keep up the relationship with your spouse and spruce it up further to new heights?

Over a period of time many of us get into a rut and forget what it needs to maintain, build up and enhance the relationship. So, here are some reminder lessons for you.

Each of the forthcoming chapters of the book will narrate one important lesson. Implement this lesson and practice it again and again till it becomes your habit and happens to you naturally.

While the book primarily deals with building intimacies between husband and wife in a marriage, the material suggested in the book is valid for any other types of relationships.

So, without any further wait, now read the full book and begin your romance. The number of pages in the book are less than 100 and so its not a bulky, boring or time consuming book. The book can be read in  couple of hours and will come handy as a reference material throughout everyone's entire life.

Stress Management: Massage, Deep Relaxation and Shavasana (Posture Like Dead Body)

Alternate Methods/Techniques of Stress Management

Many people use many alternative techniques to cope up with their stresses and strains.

We are including some of these alternative techniques in our various blog posts, a few techniques per post. Though certain methodologies have been suggested for these techniques, you need not have to copy them ditto in any ritualistic way. You can introduce some suitable adjustments in them in order to help them suit your requirements for your own comfort.

The nomenclatures may vary. Yet, some often-used labels have been assigned to these techniques.

In this post we are describing three of such alternate techniques of stress management called “Massage”, “Deep Relaxation” and “Shavasana (Posture Like Dead Body)”.

Massage

Massage is a kind of manipulation of superficial and deeper layers of muscles and connective tissues.

Full or partial body massage or just about facial massage administered by an expert masseur or a massage therapist is believed to relieve the tensions and stresses. It definitely provides a satisfactory level of relaxation.
Make sure that the masseur or massage therapist you select is an authentic one and knows the job. Similarly you will also have to make the choice of the type of massage you wish to undergo from among the large methods of massage therapies that are available.

Deep Relaxation
  • Sit in a comfortable position in a quiet place. Support your back properly.
  • Take couple of deep breaths (do belly breathing as given in chapter 18 of this book).
  • Close your eyes.
  • Do a complete body-check to locate the areas of tension.
  • Now take each tense area of body, one at a time and relax the involved muscles. Try increasing the tension and hold it for a count of one to ten and then release. You may even like to gently press or massage that part of the body.
  • Simultaneously repeat in your mind that you are feeling the warmth in that part of the body and it is getting relaxed.
  • Repeat it, in turn, for each tense area of your body.
  • Practice it for about fifteen to twenty minutes to cover the entire body.
  • End the session by taking several deep breathes.
  • Get up slowly and start your other activities.
Shavasana (Posture Like Dead Body)
  • Do not wear tight clothes.
  • Lying on the back spread both the legs and keep them at a distance of 1 or 1.5 feet apart. Keep the heels facing inside and allow the toes to fall outside and relax them.
  • Take both the hands little away, say 3 to 4 inches, from the body and relax them. Keep the palms facing the ceiling and the fingers half-closed but not tightly.
  • Turn the neck to any side and relax it.
  • Now, tighten and then relax the muscles of the face.
  • Keep the eyes closed with ease and without pressure.
  • Continue to be in this state for ten to fifteen minutes or even more and resort to slow breathing.
  • Do not go to sleep.
  • After lapse of ten to fifteen minutes (or as per your requirement of duration), open the eyes and straighten the neck.
  • Move the hands near to the body.
  • Bring both the legs together and take the supine position.
  • Get up slowly after a few minutes and start your other activities

Stress Management: Auto Suggestion

(Refer for the most authentic articles on Building Leadership and Management: http://shyam.bhatawdekar.com

Alternate Methods/Techniques of Stress Management

Many people use many alternative techniques to cope up with their stresses and strains.

In this post we are describing one of such alternate techniques of stress management called “Auto Suggestion”.

Auto Suggestion: An Alternate Technique/Method of Stress Management

You can do it sitting as well as lying down.
  1. Fix your gaze upon one spot on the ceiling (if you are lying down) or on the opposite wall (if you are sitting in a chair). This spot should be slightly above eye level towards the top of your head, a position that naturally produces tension in the eye muscles, and makes them feel heavy, so that they eventually begin to close.
  2. Repeat each of the following statements several times in your mind:
    - My eyelids are becoming heavier.
    - They are heavy and tired and I cannot keep them open.
    - I am allowing my eyes to close.
  3. Now breathe slowly and deeply. Repeat mentally: “each time I breathe out, I am becoming more relaxed”.
  4. Allow yourself to feel relaxed.
  5. Pass your attention over each muscle group in turn. As your attention moves over each muscle group, repeat mentally: “my hands are becoming relaxed”.
  6. Do this in turn for your hands, arms, shoulders, neck, face, head, chest, stomach, back, legs and feet. After you have made each suggestion, move on to the next area of your body. Then, mentally repeat: “each time I breathe out, the feeling of relaxation increases”.
  7. Do not check to see whether it is happening or not. It will distract you from this exercise. Just accept
that you want it to happen, it will happen and it is already happening.
  8. When you are comfortably relaxed, take four to five deep breaths. On each cycle of inhalation and exhalation (except for the last cycle) mentally repeat the words “this tension is all….” as you breathe in and “….going away” as you breathe out. On the last cycle, mentally say “this tension has all…..” as you breathe in and “….gone away completely” as you breathe out.
  9. Now relax and do not move or open your eyes for a few minutes (could be 5 to 8 minutes or more as you wish). You are now lying or sitting eyes closed without any movement.
  10. To come out from this state, say in your mind “I now wish to return to full awareness. I shall count from one to ten, and as I do so, I shall gradually come back to full awareness”. Then count up from one to ten, gradually open your eyes, suggesting to yourself that you are feeling good in every way, feeling better than ever before.
  11. Get up slowly and start your other activities.

Stress Management: Forgive and Forget

(Refer for the most authentic articles on Building Leadership and Management: http://shyam.bhatawdekar.com

Alternate Methods/Techniques of Stress Management

Many people use many alternative techniques to cope up with their stresses and strains.

We are including some of these alternative techniques in our various blog posts, one technique in one post.

In this post we are describing one of such alternate techniques of stress management called “Forgive and Forget”.

Forgive and Forget: An Alternate Technique/Method of Stress Management

It is not always easy, but the benefits of forgiving and forgetting can be powerful for emotional health and peace of mind.

Ideally both forgiving and forgetting should be done simultaneously for the best effect.

Some people say that they can forgive but cannot forget the wrong done to them. This will not give them complete peace of mind because they will keep remembering the painful past and it will keep troubling them and no one else. So why not forget too?

If you find difficulty in forgetting fully and the painful events come back to your mind now and then, it will be best to allow them but remember them graciously without letting them hurt you. Try to stop or filter out the bitterness the painful remembrance brings along with it. And stop or diminish your tendency of self-pity and hostility.

At times you may not be yet ready to forgive fully. In this case you can resort to decisional forgiveness. Decisional forgiveness involves choosing to let go of angry thoughts
about the person you feel has wronged you or you may decide to cut off your relationship with this person. Yet, the ultimate action will be the emotional forgiveness in which you replace the negative emotions such as resentment, bitterness, hostility, hatred, anger, and fear with love, compassion, sympathy and empathy.

You can use visualization method or cognitive method to forgive and forget.

In visualization method you can recall the painful incident and the related subjects in your imagination. Then suggest to yourself to gradually minimize the size of the visual display and see it getting minimized and then finally see it blanked out. Or you can visualize it and then crumple it and put it into a virtual dust bin/waste paper basket.

In cognitive method, recall the person who wronged you and say aloud or silently, “I have forgiven you without any grudge against you. I have also forgotten that incident and it will never haunt me again.”

So after you forgive and forget and once your emotional or mental health starts improving and you leave behind your stresses and strains, your physical health will also improve. Forgiving and forgetting will result in reducing anger, bitterness, resentment and other negative emotions and reducing the stress. It will help in strengthening the relationships. Additionally forgiving and forgetting will help maintain normal blood pressure and reducing pain (including back pain), stomach ailments and headaches.

Stress Management: Meditation

(Refer for the most authentic articles on Building Leadership and Management: http://shyam.bhatawdekar.com

(Refer our High Quality Management Encyclopedia Management Universe at:
http://management-universe.blogspot.com/)

Alternate Techniques/Methods of Stress Management

Many people use many alternative techniques to cope up with their stresses and strains.

We are including some of these alternative techniques in our various blog posts, one technique in one post.

In this post we are describing one of such alternate techniques of stress management called “Meditation”.

Meditation: An Alternate Technique/Method of Stress Management

There are numerous methods of meditation followed by numerous people. We are giving here one of the simplest methods that we call as “standard method”. Additionally, we are giving four more methods of meditation:

Meditation (Standard Method)
  1. Sit comfortably with your back straight. Be in an easy physical posture.
  2. Close your eyes gently. Let go. Relax.
  3. Witness the rise and fall of your belly as you breathe in and breathe out. Do not force, concentrate or evaluate.
  4. Whatever thoughts or sensations come let them come. Do not censor, block or evaluate. Just innocently witness them. Have no exceptions. Whatever comes is OK.After about 20 minutes gently open your eyes (trust your instinct about the timing).
Meditation (Alternate Methods)

Meditation has become quite popular and fashionable stress reliever. Therefore, various people have devised many alternative methods of meditation. It will be quite impractical to include all of them in this book. Yet, we are giving here a couple of these alternate methods as illustrations.

One alternate method is to “explode”

You need to let go by screaming, crying, jumping, shaking, dancing, singing, laughing and resorting to such similar otherwise inhibiting actions. Keep your whole body busy all the time. Do not reflect on what you are up to; do not make any analysis or judgment. Carry this on for a few minutes depending upon how long you can carry on easily. Then stop and relax.

Other alternative method of meditation can be “chanting”some words repetitively.

Raise your arms, jump up and down shouting some well-chosen word like “whoa” or “aha” or “yippee” or some such other word. That word becomes your mantra for this kind of meditation. Keep jumping up and down and shout out the mantra: whoa, whoa, whoa. Do it till you feel exhausted. Many people report that they feel quite relaxed after this type of meditation.

Another method of meditation is to “dance”it away.

Choose a room with a pleasant ambience. Choose some good music of your liking. Play it. And then dance to your heart’s desire. Feel happy and elevated. Get totally lost in dancing. You are sure to feel stress free.

Here is one more method called “gibberish”.

Engage yourself in saying some “gibberish” like the way the small children do. Make kiddy sounds and noises and utter meaningless grunts and go totally “gibberish”. You don’t have to use any meaningful language. Whatever is holding you, blurt it out by expressing it in this “gibberish”. You can make suitable body movements in consonance with the gibberish.

For all the above-mentioned alternate methods of meditation there is no fixed rule for their duration. Five to ten minutes could be just about OK.

Breathing is not only important for living but also to lift up a good mood and keep performing at your best.
Deep breathing is an improved form of breathing that you can use as your normal breathing mode and do use it particularly, from time to time, to ease stress and tension. It gives your health and energy a boost.
Under stressful situations most people resort to shallow breathing where as in those specific situations, deep breathing is recommended.

Types of Breathing

There are two types of breathing:

1. Chest breathing
2. Belly breathing or diaphragmatic breathing or abdominal breathing

Difference between Chest and Belly Breathing

Put one hand on your upper abdomen near the waist and the other on the middle of your chest. As you breathe, notice which hand raises the most.

If you are breathing in a relaxed manner, you will find that your belly will expand and contract more with each breathing cycle. You are inhaling more air and so more oxygen.

On the other hand, if you are stressed, you are likely to breathe from your chest. You may not see your hand on your abdomen raising. This indicates that you are resorting to chest breathing. Your breathing will be shallow now. A large number of people get used to this type of breathing as their day-to-day normal breathing as a consequence of modern day stresses.

Diaphragmatic breathing or belly breathing is called deep breathing. It is an act of expanding your belly and thereby allowing the diaphragm to move down. That creates more room for the lungs to expand rather than only through chest wall expansion and movement of the rib cage.

Due to the lung expansion being lower on the body as opposed to higher up, belly breathing is referred to as deep breathing. The chest breathing (higher lung expansion of rib cage breathing) is referred to as shallow breathing.

Belly (or Deep) Breathing Superiority

Belly breathing that is marked by expansion of the abdomen rather than the chest when breathing is supposed to be healthier and more complete in terms of air and oxygen intake.

A large section of people use it as a therapy for reducing their stress levels and becoming healthier.
As the belly breathing is thought to therapeutic, one can as well make it a normal way of breathing.

Belly Breathing Procedure

1. You can do it while sitting or lying down.
2. Put one hand on your chest and other hand on your belly.
3. Inhale slowly through your nose, draw air into the lungs expanding your belly and then, filling your chest. Feel your stomach expand with your hand.
4. Exhale slowly through slightly parted lips while squeezing your belly.
5. Pause for a few seconds and repeat it 5 to 6 times or what is comfortable.

Stress Management: Shun the Addictions

What is Addiction?

Any obsession and particularly an uncontrollable or unstoppable obsession of any thing or any activity is an addiction. Prolonged continuance with the addictions harms the addicted person immensely. The person gets into a habit where he cannot live without that addiction(s). He may suffer mild to serious physical and psychological maladies which over a long run may become chronic. Ultimately the outcomes of practicing the addictions make a person highly stressful and anxious.

And when a person tries to keep himself away from an addiction or if he is compelled or forced to do so, he experiences discomfort, uneasiness, stress, anxiety, sadness and anger- the withdrawal symptoms.

Apart from the stresses and resultant illness/disorders, created directly or indirectly by the addictions, all the addictions rob the victim off his time and resources.  Thus addictions are non-productive, non-value adding and waste of time and other related resources. They lead one to latch on to escapism. The addictions generate scars on the interpersonal relationships and that in turn may aggravate the stresses.

Partial List of Types of Addictions

People may suffer from various kinds of addictions. There are known age old addictions and the modern life contributes to this list of addictions continually. The modern social fabric, technology and other factors give rise to new and newer types of addictions.

A partial list of some of the addictions are given below:
  1. Drugs
  2. Smoking
  3. Drinking (alcohol)
  4. Gambling
  5. Race
  6. Pornography
  7. Sex
  8. Internet (browsing)
  9. Social networking on Internet
  10. Mobile phone
  11. Tablet computer and apps on it
  12. Television
  13. Coffee or tea over-drinking
  14. Overeating
  15. Shopping
  16. Overworking
  17. Over-exercising
Remedies from Addictions
  1. Keep yourself sufficiently busy with productive and value-adding work and your hobbies/interests both at your work place and home. You mind will be occupied and will not get an easy chance to pick up an addictive habit.
  2. Prevention or elimination is always better than any cure. So before you get caught by the addiction(s), recognize and understand your drift towards the addiction(s) and apply a break.
  3. Try to control/stop the addiction by your own willpower/efforts and get out of it right in the beginning.
  4. Make a disclosure of your addictive tendencies early on to someone you can confide in. The support and help from your confidant can go a long way in taking appropriate steps.
  5. Consult your family doctor about your addictive tendencies/habits and get his guidance and medical attention.
  6. In case of chronic illness/disorder consult an appropriate medical specialist/agency like a psychiatrist or a de-addiction center.
